Why the score is 8.4 and not nine
Most companion-app reviews are written from somewhere with a data centre nearby and a card that never gets declined. This one is not. HoneyPot is a genuinely good product, and roughly a point of the score went missing for reasons that only surface once you are using it from New Zealand.
Eight-point-four is a strong score with an asterisk, and the asterisk is geography.
HoneyPot earns its 8.4 the boring way: it does the core job well and does not oversell the rest. Persona setup takes seconds, the companion holds her character across a long session, and nothing in the interface is trying to push you into a subscription in the first five minutes. That restraint is rarer in this category than it ought to be.
From New Zealand the experience is good rather than frictionless. Everything runs in a browser, so there is nothing to install and nothing sitting in your app library. What you do notice is distance. On a long weeknight session, replies can arrive a beat behind what someone closer to the servers would see, and rural wireless connections register it first.
Billing is where Kiwis should read carefully. Charges land in US dollars, which means your bank picks the conversion rate and may add an international transaction fee on top, so the figure on your statement will not match the figure at checkout. Some New Zealand cards also decline adult-category merchants outright, which is an issuer policy rather than a fault of the site.
Support is the other local catch. The desk is offshore, so a message sent mid-morning in Masterton arrives in the small hours where it is read, and a reply generally turns up the following day. None of that is unusual for an overseas service, but it is worth realising before you count on same-day help with a billing problem.
